So I am trying to maintain and enhance my website without ever learning HTML! Ha! Can it be done? I'm not sure. Due to Hurrricane Wilma, the people I hire to help me with my website are apparently totally without power and could well be for another few weeks. The aftermath of this storm is unbelievable. It's really like being dropped into a third world country! Today we went to the beach. There isn't anywhere to go and everyone is conserving gas so we thought that would be a safe destination. Well it was scary. Power lines down along the whole route and poles or traffic lights about to drop on our heads.
But I digress.
I was bemoaning the fact that the power company has left us in this state. I spoke to a friend today who is running an online business. She's had no phone or power since the storm. That's 5 days already and no end in sight.
My husband's building is useless and he's working from home but as he's the only one in the office with both a working land line and electricity, all the sales calls are being rerouted to our home phone. He worked until midnight from Wednesday (the day we got power) on.
Anyway, I was so proud of myself. I spent a lot of time between taking care of the kids, keeping them out of his hair, answering his calls when he was away, etc creating a new web page. I tried a lot of different approaches because it was a lot of information. Finally, I created this lovely table. I am so proud of it. Then I thought to check it in a few more browsers. Well wouldn't you know, the browser that most people use, Internet Explorer, doesn't display it the way I made it. It is way too wide. What is that about? Do I know any HTML? Not really. I'm a WYSIWYG girl. I can't figure out what the heck IE is thinking. Should I write to Microsoft and tell them that they have a bug?
And while I'm at it, should I contact the government who blames the residents of South Florida for not evacuating and say, gee, I really messed up. Nevermind I evacuated for the entire month of September with 2 kids in tow and spent a fortune eating out and trying to keep them entertained while imposing on various family members. Yes, you're right, I should hop a plane again for each and every hurricane and head somewhere, anywhere, lest the power go out or the gas pumps stop functioning because they got so technical that generators can no longer power them and the gas companies don't allow that anyway.
